Back in March 1995, I bought my first computer. Shortly afterwards came my introduction to online shopping. Basia ~ "A New Day" was the very first item I purchased via the internet. It was all too exciting! Over the years, I've watched this video countless times. With each viewing my admiration for Basia and her music grows stronger.
I enjoy every song on the tape. Granted, some videos are better than others. For instance, "Cruising For Bruising" is far more polished than "New Day For You". I suppose its just a simple matter of "practice making perfect", or perhaps, bigger budgets allowing for better video production/directing.
This VHS is well edited. The interview scenes are neatly placed between the song videos, segueing very smoothly back and forth. During the interview segments, Basia is warm, sincere and candid. She impresses me as being highly intelligent, yet somewhat shy. As she discusses her career, its obvious that she puts her heart & spirit into her singing & songwriting. She conveys her emotions and life experiences to the listener with great ease.
This video compilation allows fans like me an intimate audience with an endearing and highly talented artist. I have high hopes that "A New Day" will eventually become available on DVD!
Final word: Major props to the very talented Danny White, Basia's songwriting partner. He appears in several of the videos and plays a rather wicked piano!
